NCEA Level 3 Academic Physical Education
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr T. Hill.
Level 3 Academic Physical Education is a challenging course with a high level of theoretical content.
Being mostly project-based work; self-motivation and self-management are essential if you are to be successful in this subject. Students who participate will develop a deeper understanding of Biophysical Principles and Socio-cultural ideas surrounding sport.
As a result of this knowledge, it is hoped students will be able to comprehensively analyse historical ideas and hegemonies associated to physical activity and begin to suggest solutions to common societal issues concerning physical activity outcomes in the world and here in NZ.
A critical approach to physical activity in various settings will be the key focus.
Previous experience in Academic P.E or Outdoor Education is an advantage, but not essential. Please see Mr. Hill if you are not experienced in APD and would like to join for the first time at Level 3.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is an advantage that students have completed the Year 12 Academic Physical Education course, the Year 10 Sports Science and either of the Year 11 Academic Physical Education or Outdoor Education courses.
Students should also have a genuine interest in physical activity. Academic success in other subjects will be examined as part of the selection process for this course.

Disclaimer
Rosmini College's timetable is student-driven and a new timetable is generated each year based on student subject selection. Unfortunately, while we do our best to avoid them, timetabling clashes may still occur and a few students may be required to choose an alternative subject option.
The 2024 timetable, including the number of classes in each subject and staffing allocations, is created based on student selections made in 2023. Because of this, changing subjects at the beginning of 2024 may not be possible. Please, make your subject choices carefully.
