NCEA Level 2 Technology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

This course allows the student to engage in the activity of Product Design, the student develops an individual product for a specific need, within a given context and issue, for a specific stakeholder. The context and issue may vary from year to year. The student has the opportunity to utilise a wide range of technological resources and facilities in the design and manufacture of their product.

Assessment credits relate to the design, planning, prototyping, manufacture and final evaluation as fit for purpose of their product. Achievement Standard credits are gained via a comprehensive design portfolio, which involves academic rigour, critical thinking, analysis and evaluation, as well as manufacturing a quality product.

While there are 24 credits available in this course, an individualised programme will be created for each student based on their ability and needs in conjunction with the teacher.

Recommended Prior Learning

Students should have completed Technology or DVC at Level 1, with a minimum of 14 credits. They should have demonstrated they are able to manage their time effectively, be creative critical thinkers with an interest in product design and manufacturing.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Students will be charged for project materials - approximately $50
